Just a couple of drawings from the life drawing session from today, I 'decided' to go for a lower angle on some of the pieces, just to see what it looked like. I rather like how some of them turned out. I think I need to work on my proportions though, I still can't seem to get them right.

Can't say I'll ever enjoy life drawing, but these things must be done. Here's the stuff I produced during the session, not quite sure on the timings for each one, but if it looks scratchy and frantic, it's probably a one minute one. They're in the order I did them so if there is any progression maybe it'll stand out. This was a group collaboration, featuring drawings from everyone in the first and second year groups, how nice. Mine is the massive behemoth that takes up the whole page.

Digital Painting was spent learning how to use brushes, as well as how to make our own. I'm almost glad I haven't finished all my thumbnails yet, because now I get to use the things I learned for the next few! Almost. Not actually glad, but it's close. Anyway, here's the stuff I produced in the session. Might end up using them for my thumbnails, but they probably need a little adjusting.

Just a sample of my city notes. This one is for Thekla, I'll upload more as I make them. Today we were given a briefing on how the Context project will go, including infomation on how it relates to our Film Reviews. Last year I really wasn't feeling it but I'm really looking forward to the Context project this time, I think the group oriented structure and the way it leans heavily into building our research skills will help me a lot. My gang's research focus is on Film Noir, or at least The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari in relation to Film Noir. I picked up a few books out of the library to read tonight and tomorrow (Film Noir by William Luhr and Film Noir by Alain Silver and James Ursini.) in preparation for Thursday. Anyway, here's the thumbnails I've got so far. These ones didn't actually turn out too bad. I rather like them. I'm still not great at drawing open mouths though, definitely something I need to work on.

We worked on the orthographic views for our monster designs today.

These are the colour keys I made as a quick test using one of my Isaura key thumbnails.

Today was spent contiuning on from last week, finishing up the pen tool designs of our monsters. We moved on to adding colour, using the live paint tool and set out to quickly create a bunch of colour variations. After that we used layer styles to add shadows and highlights to our original designs.

Following up from last weeks session, continuing with the same kind of stuff except this time with a male model.

We spent this afternoon learning about perspective; 1, 2 and 3 point. It's a useful technique that I'll definitely be using in my final few thumbnails. Would have been nice to learn it a bit earlier though, I've always been terrible at perspective, I just can't seem to imagine how it's 'supposed' to look. But I suppose I could have learnt it in my own time. Upper Left: 1 Point, Lower Left: 2 Point, Upper Right: 3 Point, Lower Right: 1 Point (But using non-cubes!)
